persistent "Ctrl" and "Escape" on-screen keys #457

It would be nice to have an option to keep the Ctrl and Escape keys on screen 
at all times. Then tab completing a file name would be a two tap action instead 
of three, leaving insert mode in vi would be a one tap action, etc.

This would be nice but I would like to see a dedicated column (in landscape) to 
the right or left with certain onscreen buttons.  maybe make it customizable?
