The Shaarli webextension ignores the Automatically retrieve description for new bookmarks setting. This setting is off by default but can be turned on under Tools > Configure your Shaarli.

Add link from Shaarli instance: description field contains A Web Extension for Shaarli. Contribute to ikipatang by default

Add link from webextension: description field is empty, like when adding from Shaarli instance with automatic retrieval turned off

Same issue here, would be nice if this worked. Considering that the title is auto-filled, the description shouldn't be too hard to do either?
