Weekly Project Update 4/6

Ben, Madelyn, India, and Claire were all present at the meeting.

Things to discuss:

• State of xml
• Updates over the past week
• XSLT
• Tasks from last week
• SVG
• CSS

Discussed:

• XSLT outline not done, but will be done
• Madelyn and India need to update xml markup
• Look into max height for photos css
• CSS for meet the singers: delete float left for p,
• Media query checks viewport and changes based on your view, change last list item to white in navigation bar and look back over women of jazz.css for errors, change text align: left
• Include India’s biographies
• SVG: what do we want to represent? What should it look like? Graphs to consider: positive or negative with men and woman (Madelyn), what actions in regard to mental health(India)/active versus passive(Claire)/cause-fault (Madelyn) (standard form for bar charts with only changing the XPATH to make more simple)
• Maybe use butterfly graph like Charlie’s project, maybe more bar chart and discuss outliers, consider all attributes when creating graphs/charts to answer our question
• Change images height or something to get centered
• Look at fonts for changing website

• Utility for SVG

  • Collection, XPath function that takes a series of xml documents and makes them into one variable

Hey, I just saw your website and its really impressive. I really liked how the background of your website reflected your concept of the Blues. It looks like you guys are moving into SVG and creating graphs. My group is also moving into SVG and we have decided to use butterfly graphs and bar charts to display our information. Have you guys decided which graphs and charts you want to use to display your information? I'm definitely looking forward to the final product of your project!

Hey! I see that you are also working on your XSLT for the reading view. I'm in charge of mine for my project, so if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me! Professor Birnbaum created an example template and pushed it to my project repo, so you can definitely take a look into it for help! The template worked as is with some modifications for your specific repo structure and XML schema! I was also wondering how you guys will customize your reading view to visualize how you tagged your XML files.
