TEI provides the element which 'indicates a point where material has been omitted in a transcription, whether for editorial reasons described in the TEI header, as part of sampling practice, or because the material is illegible, invisible, or inaudible".

For blank pages or membranes, we can use the element with a @reason attribute.

In a PDF, we could display like this:

Display looks fine to me. I might slightly change it to output as [m. 1 dorse - Blank] [Stupid pedantic point, the reverse of a membrane on a roll is the dorse not the verso!]
