Explore pricing models #18

This could be subscription, buying/selling of image sections, or a pay-per-click model. Need a rough estimate of how much we could charge under each model and and idea of how much revenue it would generate (short and long term). This should probably be documented in a wiki page.

We also need to determine what the unit of sale will be. Do we just sell by the section, or per page? Is access sold on a temporary or permanent basis. Could we do various combinations? What add-on features could constitute up-sell opportunities?

I think it's worth noting that the initial pricing model isn't a one-way door.

Meaning, it often to make sense to start with one model up front and move to a different model later on. Adobe is an example on an extreme scale.

I think if IL had records for a handful of counties, it would make a lot more sense to charge by the image/section/instrument/whatever, whereas if IL had the entire state it would make a lot more sense to charge a subscription like Pangea. I think the question is more "what is the minimum threshold that allows IL to create a recurring revenue model.

Re: temporary or permanent basis...Why can't we make it like Spotify where you are allowed to download songs to your device, but if you stop paying the monthly fee you can no longer access the songs? Or as someone mentioned, you could access your annotations/notes if you keep paying, otherwise they go away.
