Enforced anonymity? #20

Users get randomly assigned username that is permanent but it is never revealed who they are?

Pros: Less intimidating to post Less concern about political consequences of critique (etiquette of niceness makes for a nicer science culture, but also somewhat impedes progress) Not likely to be swayed by an argument just because it is posted by an "expert" - allows field to move away from authority and dogma

Cons: Cannot use context of who the person is to determine level of expertise, possible bias, etc. Less sense of ownership and personal "reputation"?

This is a tough one. Maybe with ratings-only for part of the site, those ratings could be totally anonymous, no userid at all. I've seen that on a number of sites. Then though perhaps a problem is differentiating the quality of those low barrier feedbacks. //AnneTheAgile
