Hi,
In GCompris we also have that list of words and some are already translated in a few languages (Catalan, Spanish, Italian) you need: https://github.com/gcompris/GCompris-qt/tree/master/src/activities/lang/resource
I've contacted our Portuguese translators to know if they are willing to help us translating to Portuguese too.
Feel free to convert them with a script to your format (I can take a look to do the script if needed).
Cheers,
Johnny
Thanks Johnny,
That sounds great, I will look into that when I get a chance... In fact, just after having a quick look at your format, converting it to my list will be a straightforward task so I'm sure I'll be able to make a great use of that resource.
UPDATE: The conversion script is now ready. Catalan and Spanish languages can be reused. The Italian one needs translating - only 205 out of 585 words needed for this project are translated - some categories would have 6 or fewer words which are not enough for the word matching games - at least 12 required.
Thanks again, Ireneusz
I) The first way by one project.
II) The second way by two projects.
As a result Transifex will add strings from GCompris automatically into your PO files.
The first way is simple and enough for your case. Just time by time upload new PO files from GCompris. It will add new translations only, will not touch translated strings.
I have already borrowed available words from GCompris into this project. The GCompris list has over 1200 words, I only need 585 out of them. The script that selects required words from GCompris format is there and can be easily changed to do PO instead when the entire list is moved to the PO files.
GCompris will have new translations in future and it will be easy to add them into your PO files using PO files from GCompris by Transifex. Tx merges automatically. For better parsing you need 2 different PO files for program and for words.
It's nice Italian translation was finished by tx.
Hi,
we have an update of Portuguese in GCompris (https://websvn.kde.org/*checkout*/trunk/l10n-kf5/pt/messages/extragear-edu/gcompris_lang.po for the po, https://github.com/gcompris/GCompris-qt/blob/master/src/activities/lang/resource/content-pt.json for the json depending on which you prefer to get from).
Hi, That's great news - thanks. I'll get it updated on this end shortly. I suppose json will be easier since I have a script ready for it. Thanks.
Look at https://www.transifex.com/jmphilippe/doudoulinux/gcompris/ Just upload all files to https://www.transifex.com/eduactiv8/eduactiv8/a4a_word_listpot/ and to https://www.transifex.com/eduactiv8/eduactiv8/defaultpot/ and transifex will add new translations.
This is the translation for the old GCompris version, not the actual one. This version has been dropped since 2014 and it does not contain the list of words to translate
It does not have matter. Some words can be imported.
I'll check it out, however, I can't download anything without being a member of the translation team, is anyone still maintaining this project if the last translation activity on the project was in 2013, on the other hand, if that version does not have the word lists then I'm not sure if I want to download any random translations out of context, when we have access to the latest version with the lists translated.
Hi, I don't know if the language list is up-to-date but in GCompris, we had a Hebrew contributor that translated the list of words: https://invent.kde.org/education/gcompris/-/blob/master/src/activities/lang/resource/content-he.json for the json (https://websvn.kde.org/*checkout*/trunk/l10n-kf5/he/messages/gcompris/gcompris_lang.po for the po).
Maybe it can be useful for eduActiv8 :).
Johnny
Hi Johnny,
Thank you for the update. The word list will definitely be useful for this project - it has not been translated to Hebrew on our end yet - so will be more than happy to reuse your contribution.
Thanks, Ireneusz Imiolek
Hi again, hope you're fine!
Finnish has been added in GCompris, feel free to reuse if needed (https://invent.kde.org/education/gcompris/-/blob/master/src/activities/lang/resource/content-fi.json).
Btw, you can find the languages where translators provided the words list in https://l10n.kde.org/stats/gui/trunk-kf5/po/gcompris_lang.po/ (these are the po files, the json files can be retrieved using the invent.kde.org link and changing the locale in the filename).
Cheers,
Johnny
Hi again Johnny, I'm fine and hope you are well too.
Thank you again for getting back to me with the updates.
We seem to have 492 words in common, which will be a great addition to the project. As always I'll be more than happy to reuse them. Thank you.
One thing I noticed though, there are 16 words where the translator provided two or more comma-separated translation alternatives. In my case, I'll try to decide which one matches the image best and remove the other alternative translations, or remove the word altogether if it's difficult to tell the difference without language knowledge.
I'm not sure how you use these translations, but do the multiple translations not cause you any issues in GCompris?
The following is the list of the affected translations: "butcher.ogg": "lihakauppias, teurastaja", "chick.ogg": "kananpoika, tipu", "coach.ogg": "valmentaja, liikunnanopettaja", "dry.ogg": "kuivata, kuivua", "family.ogg": "perhe, suku", "fall.ogg": "pudota, kaataa", "family.ogg": "perhe, suku", "find.ogg": "etsiä, löytää", "jacket.ogg": "pusero, takki", "lane.ogg": "kuja, kaista", "pepper.ogg": "pippuri, paprika", "play.ogg": "leikkiä, pelata, näytellä", "smell.ogg": "haista, haistaa", "stop.ogg": "pysähtyä, pysäyttää", "stretch.ogg": "venyttää, venytellä", "touch.ogg": "koskea, koskettaa",

This is a good point, I'll ask the translator if there is a reason to have 2 or more words, it could be an issue depending on the activity. I'll keep in touch to tell you!
"pepper.ogg": "pippuri, paprika",
pippuri is a black pepper. paprika is a powder of red peppers. Synonyms?
Thanks for pointing that out, although we don't actually use this particular word (in eduActiv8), the plural version of the word will need looking at:
"peppers.ogg": "pippuri"
We may be looking for "paprikat" here to match the context (the image shows two long pointy red peppers).
Hi, I got a reply from one Finnish translator:
The following is the list of the affected translations: "butcher.ogg": "lihakauppias, teurastaja",
Lihakauppias = who sells meat, Teurastaja = kills the animal
"chick.ogg": "kananpoika, tipu",
kananpoika
"coach.ogg": "valmentaja, liikunnanopettaja",
valmentaja
"dry.ogg": "kuivata, kuivua",
kuivata
"family.ogg": "perhe, suku",
perhe
"fall.ogg": "pudota, kaataa",
kaatua
"find.ogg": "etsiä, löytää",
"etsiä" is when you are looking for something, "löytää" is when you found the thing you were looking for
"jacket.ogg": "pusero, takki",
takki
"lane.ogg": "kuja, kaista",
that is actually "tie" but yes "kaista" is correct
"pepper.ogg": "pippuri, paprika",
pippuri
"play.ogg": "leikkiä, pelata, näytellä",
"leikkiä" is what the kids do when they play, "pelata" is used when you for an example play football
"smell.ogg": "haista, haistaa",
haistaa
"stop.ogg": "pysähtyä, pysäyttää",
I would use "lopettaa" :)
"stretch.ogg": "venyttää, venytellä",
"venyttää"
"touch.ogg": "koskea, koskettaa",
both are fine, depends on how intimate the contact is, maybe "koskea"
Thank you for the update. I'll get these updated on my end. Thank you.
Help needed please with a translation of lists of words for the Word Building/Matching activities so they can be enabled in all available languages. Currently, that's 5 types of activities with 12 categories of words in each of them - 60 language activities that are not displayed in some languages. There are 585 rather simple words to translate. Translations are needed in the following languages:
