Localise (L10n) spec for languages other than only English #207

Let's localise the WebVR API spec in languages other than English too.

Any and all contributions for translations are welcome. If folks know anyone, feel free to link to this issue.

I'm all sort of supportive of localization efforts! I'm not sure that we want encourage localization of the 1.1 spec, though, given that we do intend to phase it out. As such this should probably be a focus for 2.0, which isn't really ready for it just yet. 😝

Still, it's a worthy goal! Let's definitely keep it in mind as we build up the 2.0 spec!

Thanks for bringing that up. I could be prematurely jumping the gun, but perhaps it is still worth localising the v1.1 spec since the WebVR v1.1 implementation has shipped in release-channel WebVR-capable browsers (in Chrome for Android, Microsoft Edge, Samsung Internet Browser for Gear VR [I think?], and soon in Firefox stable; and I'm not sure which API version Oculus Carmel will be shipping). Thanks for setting the milestone to 2.0; I think that's good.

This is great!

In our last implementers' meeting, we discussed potentially dropping the deprecated methods in WebVR 1.1. Perhaps we could save some l10n effort if these are dropped earlier. Until decided, perhaps we could save localization of the deprecated methods until the end...

I just saw the tweet from @cvan and I could may look at it in german but I'm not sure how I should do that. Does I need to translate the files directly and then create a pull request?

Hi @cvan , I can translate English content to both Portuguese and Spanish. Could you please tell me about the workflow we should follow in order to contribute?

newtoncalegari commented 7 years ago

Hi, I'm happy to contribute with the Portuguese translation as well

Hi @cvan, I'd like to translate English content to Chinese. And if WebVR Explainer need similar translation, I'd like to offer my help too :)

Hi @cvan I'm happy to contribute with the Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi translation as well. A Quick question is, how to get started?

DanielBHughes commented 7 years ago

I could possibly do the Welsh language for you? The link to the API spec at the top of the page is broken? I'd also like to know how to get started?
