Mobile: nginx "ssl/tls alert certificate unknown:SSL alert number 46) while SSL handshaking" when downloading video #13439

The bug

I'm not 100% sure this is an issue with the mobile app -- please redirect if you disagree!

I'm hosting immich on a home server, behind nginx as a reverse proxy using a self-signed certificate. I'm also using the mobile app on Android, which is configured to allow self-signed SSL certificates.

Using the mobile app, when I attempt to download a video from an album (which isn't already present on the device), the app says "Download failed \<filename>.mp4". Nginx's error log says:

SSL_do_handshake() failed (SSL: error:0A000416:SSL routines::ssl/tls alert certificate unknown:SSL alert number 46) while SSL handshaking, client: ::\<redacted>, server: [::]:443

Images can be viewed fine. Videos can be viewed using the web app fine.

My understanding of that log message is that the client rejected the handshake because it didn't trust the server's certificate (and told the server why as an FYI).

Is it possible that the immich mobile app uses a different mechanism to download videos, and that doesn't respect the "allow self-signed certs" setting?

Thanks!
