Thanks for you patience to the questions :)
Can you try grabbing the svn version from
http://code.google.com/p/pychess/source/checkout and see if that one works
better?

hi,
ok got your deb and installed it with
dpkg -i command
installed but some errors about dependencies
about pyton-glade2
about python-gst0.10
so installed the both AFTER dpkg your .deb
reboot the computer
new entry into debian menu (game > pychess)
logged into guest, ok, chat console ok
logged into my account, ok, chat console, no, always the freeze.
note
as in guest or my account, i need to wait for around 4-5 seconds and pychess
connects.
i mean, i fill in the first window (guest or my account), immediatly i see the
main window but no informations into, need to wait 4 seconds and after i can
see games, players, graph seek, etc, etc (i don't know if this is important for
u).
can learn how to use svn in order to get the svn version (only if u tell me yes)
waiting for news

Areuh, thx. for the feedback! Unfortunately I can't reproduce the freeze on a
clean Squeeze install in Virtualbox. Another difference is my Squeeze is 32bit,
not 64. The beta2 is the same as hg tip at this moment, so we can get no extra
from a clean checkout (we use mercurial).
About the note. We had to wait for loading FICS news and rating info into the
dialog to avoid another freeze bug. I hope we can eliminate this inconvenience
in the future versions.

ok will wait next versions but a question.
Did u ask into FICS's channel85 (linux channel) in order to know if we are many
to know this issue or just me... anyway i'll ask.
thx

I thought we "fixed" this with issue 677. @areuh: Are you sure you are using
the right version of pychess? Please double-check by checking the version
("Help > About") after you start pychess. You might want to temporarily
uninstall the pychess that you installed through your distribution, and then
run the latest version you downloaded from the pychess website or from hg.

I can't reproduce. Did you uninstall the distribution version of pychess you
installed through apt-get first, before trying the latest version from the
pychess website?

I see what's happening: If one's 'Lang' variable on FICS is set to something
other than 'English', then the output of the FICS command 'channel_list' comes
in a different language than English, and the regex matching doesn't work. The
attached patch should fix the problem.
It doesn't seem like pychess changes the 'Lang' variable on FICS, so I would
guess that people experiencing this problem used some other FICS client that
changed 'Lang' before having this particular problem with pychess.

Confirmed.
1. First I set lang to Spanish in Jin applet
2. Started PyChess without this patch
3. Clicked on Chat button -> freeze
4. Applied the patch
5. No freeze with Chat button
Really nice catch, thx. Matt :)

Btw. have you asked them (FICS) to fix the docs on v_language?

gbtami: Fixed to say what?
http://www.freechess.org/Help/HelpFiles/v_language.html seems to be correct:
'set Lang Spanish' and 'set language Spanish' both seem to work

I mean they doesn't mention that lang setting affects not only help but
channel_list command too.

I suppose it might be worth a try. So much of their documentation though is out
of date or nonexistent, I'm not sure it would make much of a difference.
