What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Not really an issue, but I can't find docs on how to upgrade.  Mostly
just curious how to update the db, or if that's necessary.

Apologies if it's documented, I couldn't find it.

As of 2.3.0-M2, you don't need to upgrade the DB of 2.2.0. If you try out 
2.3.0-M2 on
the top of 2.2.0, just replace the webapp and make proper gnizr-config.xml
configuration. 

I will document "How To Upgrade" before the final release of 2.3.0.

basic instructions on how to upgrade have been added in the HowToIntall wiki 
page.
will continue to work on this issue until we close the 2.3.0 final release.
