Idea for Condensing Confirmation Screen #306

Open joellebel opened 7 years ago

Hi all -

While observing users, I think both Alex and I have noticed the confirmation screen looks a bit overwhelming, especially to new folks. It also contains fields that are rarely used even by advanced users. (Feel free to check the stats on that as I have don't have them.)

I was curious what a simpler conf. screen would look like by collapsing the lesser used fields (geoprivacy, captive and projects). See below 2 sketches...

These are just sketches to get an idea of space and simplicity. I can certainly mock up what it would look like expanded. Just wanted to gauge folks' feedback. (@alexshepard @kueda @loarie @pleary and anyone else)

I'm not sure how complicated the expand/collapse thing is to code on this screen. @alexshepard could you also comment on that. Tnx.

I definitely say keep the fields around (except 'help me ID this species') but it's fine to have them collapse.

I definitely like this general idea. I have a slight preference for option A but I couldn't explain why other than that it feels more integrated with the rest of the screen.

ID please will be gone shortly, @naturalistcharlie ;)

Accordioning the rows won't be difficult.

Accordioning the rows won't be difficult.

Ok. Because we could also do something like this...

In this mock up the geoprivacy, captive and projects options would be on a new screen that slides in from the right.

alexshepard commented 7 years ago

If you don't have a UX reason to prefer one over the other, I'd prefer the accordion approach as it's technically simpler.

joellebel commented 7 years ago

Ok. Cool. Yes, I prefer accordion too. Just wanted us to see all options. I will do a mock up of what it looks like expanded.

loarie commented 7 years ago

looks fine to me

joellebel commented 7 years ago

ok. cool. I'll mock up the expanded view real quick.

Here's a couple mock ups for the expanded view. Disregard the fact I repeated the Captive/Cultivated row. Pretend it's Projects. I just don't have an iPhone 6 anymore to take screenshots from and this original design was done with an iPhone 6.

This has "More Options" highlighted when open...

Honestly don't have big preference between the two.
