No indication of arriving emails or number of unread emails #353

Gmail Notifier gives no indication of arriving emails or number of unread emails (one account: Gmail).

I'm running GN in a clean Firefox profile, as recommended to others, but continue to get this problem.

I log into my Gmail account, right-click the GN icon in the menu bar of Firefox (icon color=blue), select REFRESH, and a GN pop-up notification says PLEASE LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT.

I've set the Gmail - Settings: New mail notifications on, enabled IMAP, disabled POP.

I've set the Firefox extensions / GN Options: Gmail / Primary Account=inbox, Notifications / Display desktop notification for new emails & Play alert sound for new emails.

This is a pc with Windows 7.

Suggestions? Thank you(!).

Can you open https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/feed/atom/inbox in a new tab without the need to enter your credentials?

Interesting...

When I right-click on your link and select OPEN LINK IN NEW TAB, about half the time I get a properly formatted status of the one unread email in my inbox that looks like this:

good

And, about half the time the status is improperly formatted and looks like this:

bad

Thanks for your help.

I forgot to mention - I did not need to enter my credentials when I opened your link in a new tab. The link opened as you see it in the JPG's.

The formatting is not really important, the important part is Firefox is able to load the resource without the need for credentials.

Okay then, please close all your Firefox windows. Now open a single one and then open Error console (Ctrl + Shift + J). Try to refresh notifier manually and see if you get a new error in the console

I closed all Firefox windows. I opened one Firefox window. I opened the Error Console. I right-click the GN icon in the menu bar of Firefox (icon color=blue), select REFRESH, and a GN pop-up notification says PLEASE LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT. Here is the Error Console image: 1 I logged into my Gmail account, right-clicked the GN icon in the menu bar of Firefox (icon color=blue), select REFRESH, and a GN pop-up notification says PLEASE LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT. Here is the Error Console image: 2 I logged out of my Gmail account, right-clicked the GN icon in the menu bar of Firefox (icon color=blue), select REFRESH, and a GN pop-up notification says PLEASE LOG INTO YOUR ACCOUNT. Here is the Error Console image: 3 Thanks for your continued help(!).

Question: Did I misunderstand your instruction as to how to "Try to refresh notifier manually and see if you get a new error in the console" or did I do it right?

inbasic commented 9 years ago

Please disable your GN. Now open the console and clear it. Re-enable the GN and see if anything appears on the console.

tholepins commented 9 years ago

I log into my Gmail account in Firefox, right-click the blue GN icon in the menu bar of Firefox, select DISABLE ALL NOTIFICATIONS, open the Browser Console, clear it, then right-click the GN icon, and select ENABLE NOTIFICATIONS. The console remains blank, nothing appears.

Thanks for your continued support.

No I meant to disable the extension entirely from add-ons manager

tholepins commented 9 years ago

Got it (!). I clicked DISABLE GN in the Add-ons Manager. I opened and cleared the Browser Console. I clicked ENABLE GN in the Add-ons Manager. Nothing appears in the Browser Console....

That's weird! No idea what could be the problem then. Let me know if you got any more info.
