I have the idea that the explorer is using a lot of memory and I suspect we have some memory leaks too. (I've been doing some profiling using Google Chrome's timeline in the developer toolbox). However, this area is new to me.

We are sunsetting the bird tracking explorer (+ Carto accounts only accepts limited API calls). I'm closing any related issues.
