Use DOI for datasetID #6

We currently populate datasetID with something like: http://dataset.inbo.be/vis-inland-occurrences. This links to the resource on our IPT. This however, is not the dataset key used in the GBIF portal and through the GBIF API, which is 823dc56e-f987-495c-98bf-43318719e30f. Should we change to this GBIF UUID?

Even though there are disadvantages, I'm still tempted to do this. Dag from Norway is doing the same. What do you think @DimEvil?

DimEvil commented 10 years ago

I don 't know. There are pro and contra's. There is something similar possible with occurrenceID's. I'm not sure if this would be better.

peterdesmet commented 10 years ago

But occurrenceIDs issued by GBIF are currently not stable.

Another thing: eventually datasetIDs might become DOIs.

Dag talked about a kind of protocol for this. But i'm not in favour, this might need some "check out" time.

Follow up: we should use the dataset DOI in datasetID.

Decided to use DOIs, as those are more stable. DOIs currently link to GBIF pages, but that can be changed in the future.
