What name is preferred for the tags?

Is that also the name that is most often used in literature? (for the GPS tags it's tracker) If so, I'll update some names.

Yes, when talking about the individual device, 'transmitter' is used. When talking about the protocol, ones refer to 'tagging'. 'Tag' often refers to external (visual) tags (e.g. fluoy tags). Transmitter refers to a more technical device (i.e. accoustic transmitter).

All updated.

Google Spreadsheet + CartoDB table is now fish_tracking_transmitters. The fields are now: transmitter_id and transmitter_type
