Scripts: Power Top Installation Change

Today, PowerTop is installed as a specific version by

• install_packages.sh and script_powertop.sh Should we remove script_powertop.sh?

Now, 2 things to consider:

• install_packages.sh is meant for host requirements, not something we will test with and power top is not a requirement for our host
• having a specific version might limited us in updates and fixes

So the proposed change to is

• Remove script_powertop.sh
• Remove installation from install_packages.sh and allow install_sources.sh to handle it
• Instead of a fixed version let's use the github version https://github.com/fenrus75/powertop.git

This way we will have 2 scripts that are taking care of our host setup and test packages sourcing.

Hi @xe1gyq We will move from install_packages.sh and all the sh to something with autotools .. so in the meantime leaving the scripts as it is might avoid double effort. Thats my humble opinion.

Github and fixed versions.. I understand that is easier and faster to do git pull than wget or curl x y version .. I migh have some incluence of all these moths of being doing rpms and spec files however we if you have a version that works fine for you you stick with that until you have test the latest one if that does not work well .. you still have a check point .

Lets discuss this on the v0.2 release mail I am going to send
