"Province of China" should be on the ban list #15

As ISO 3166:TW indicates, the short name of Taiwan is suffixed with "(Province of China)". However, it doesn't reflect the fact Taiwan as a standalone, independent political entity, neither the will of the people living on this land. A more neutral reference should just be Taiwan, without any extra bias.

If the group agrees that this falls into the category of technology terms, then I support publishing the recommendation.

While "Province of China" is never acceptable, I often see -- and would recommend -- "Republic of China" as a replacement. This is the official name by which the country's government refers to itself.

Hi @LarryKunz, your reasoning regarding "Republic of China" makes sense. While I believe that most of the country's citizens prefer "Taiwan" (obviously, I don't and can't speak for them), no one could be blamed for using the name that the government officially uses. That being said, it's worth pointing out that if the Taiwanese government wanted to change the official name, they aren't exactly free to do so because of threats of immediate violent escalation from the CCP. (There's quite a bit of evidence that they would switch the official name to "Taiwan" if this were possible without the risk of horrible consequences.)

Is the rationale for this issue currently being "Not Under Consideration" recorded anywhere?
