update helpers to use mixins with optional extends

to reduce problems with overwriting @extends. Remove leftover legacy file names from imports files. Move vertical-center mixin to legacy folder.

I wasn't really sure what to do to update the vertical-center helper because I'm not entirely sure how it works or if it can be updated sensibly.
