[feature request] Offer a standalone influx CLI package #7

Open Issif opened 8 years ago

Issif commented 8 years ago

Hi,

It could be very useful to get a stand alone influx-cli binary. I'm working with a cluster and would like to query it throught my endpoint (HAproxy) and not directly from nodes (where influxd + influx-cli are installed obviously).

Regards,

Just to clarify that I understood this correctly, this is for there being a seperate debian/rpm package available for only installing the CLI, right?

Issif commented 8 years ago

Yes, it is.

In the same way we have a mysql-cli package.

I'd go as far to say there should also be .dmg and .exe support for MacOS and Windows. I really don't want my end users who're only going to query raw data to setup a server just to install the CLI.

can we have influx data or influx db executables packages or files like prometheus and atlas: e.g. https://github.com/prometheus/prometheus/releases/download/v2.5.0/prometheus-2.5.0.linux-amd64.tar.gz

https://github.com/Netflix/atlas/releases/download/v1.5.3/atlas-1.5.3-standalone.jar

Wontfix? Please don't let the stale bot drop such a widely requested feature (adding myself to the list, for all the good reasons others have outlined).

Clever bot :-D

Just to keep the issue alive, I need it too.

matt-kubica commented 4 years ago

Me too, that would be very handy!

YeomansIII commented 4 years ago

+1 Discovered I needed this when migrating my InfluxDB docker container from 2.0-beta to 2.0-rc. I have two docker containers running now and would like the influx-cli to run on my host machine to migrate data.
