Audible alert when a tagged cell is selected or an empinken tag is changed

When an empinken tagged cell is selected, optionally play a sound that announces you have entered a particular tagged cell.

Alternatively, announce the cell type with a spoken description or a particular tone in response to a keyboard shortcut.

Also / instead, an optional audible alert that identifies a cell tag/no tag when an empinken button is clicked. A tiny click to identify when the cell is not a tagged cell.

So what do we need for this?

• identify cell is selected event;
• play sound when event is raised.

In the settings:

• setting to enable/disable sound:
  • when empinken button is pressed (identify tag-type or not tagged after click)?
  • when cell is selected?
  • both the above?

Should there be one setting for all empinken tags? Or should this just apply to tags that have already been checked for display?

Sound design:

• tone for each cell type; or
• (option) speak cell type?

Questions:

• how might this interfere with screen readers?
• do we assume the extension audio has to work alongside a screen reader, as well as in place of a screen reader?

My suggestion would be to get a real user of such a feature (ie with visual difficulties) and work with them. I can ask in the M269 tutor forum if anyone has such a student and give your email.
