Add note about quad vs dual channel for Threadripper. Never go dual channel on Threadripper!

integralfx commented 4 years ago

While this is good to know, it's not directly related to RAM OC.

Oh, when I started out with threadripper I accidentally went with a dual channel kit and tried to OC it. Since everyone said it was best to use two sticks max for OC. After I while I realized that quad channel was the way to go. I really doubt no one else made the same mistake as me!

Since everyone said it was best to use two sticks max for OC.

That's probably because mainstream platforms are dual channel, so 2 sticks with the right motherboard will have the best OC potential. Not sure how the OC'ing capability is with 2 sticks on TR, but I tried with 1 stick on my 9600k on a daisy chain motherboard and it didn't seem to be any worse than with 2 sticks.

After I while I realized that quad channel was the way to go.

Yes, quad channel will help more with performance than overclocking 2 sticks.
