06-8c-01: Missing microcode updates #51

A user is reporting random crashes with a Dell XPS 13 9310 2-in-1 using Debian sid/unstable tested with Linux kernel up to 5.10.9-1.

To rule out processor bugs, when are the microcode updates going to be available? The release notes for the latest release 20201118 say the updates were removed:

  • Removed TGL/06-8c-01/80 due to functional issues with some OEM platforms.

Latest release, microcode-20210608, adds TGL back.

The latest Dell system firmware update is version 2.2.1:

Fehlerkorrekturen und Verbesserungen

Korrekturen:

  • Behebung des Problems, bei dem beim Schließen der Systemabdeckung nach dem Neustart des Systems keine Audioausgabe am externen Monitor erfolgt

Verbesserungen:

  • Update der Intel Management Engine zur Verbesserung der Thunderbolt-Konnektivität
  • Update der Firmware der Embedded Controller Engine zur Verbesserung der Akkulaufzeit
  • Sekundäre Funktionstaste hinzugefügt, die Fn + Links als Home und Fn + Rechts als Ende ist

I am going to check in the next weeks, what microcode updates are shipped with that, and see if Debian is going to package the new microcode updates soon.
