PM1 Number Concentration Explains Traffic Pollution Better

Talking with Dr. Kinney, she mentioned that we don't see the changes in PM2.5 we expect, because the major player in traffic-related PM is PM1.

The Problem

The diameter of a PM1 particle is only ~2 times smaller than a PM2.5 particle, but the difference in mass is at least 8 times smaller. Perhaps this is why we don't see differences on campus.

The Solution

Purple Airs do have a measurement for NUMBER of particles of 0.3 and 1 micro-meters in diameter so let's look at these values instead of MASS concentration of PM2.5 or even PM1.
