A new tab called Additional Events with custom image and the following text:

What better way to shed those unwanted pounds from the Symposium dinner than a gentle stroll in the University Botanic Gardens on Saturday morning?

Prof John Parker, former Director of the Botanic Garden, has kindly agreed to give a guided tour of the garden, and a talk entitled “How the Botanic Garden gave birth to evolution and genetics: a tale of Henslow, Darwin and Bateson”.

Prof Parker will describe how the University Botanic Garden was designed in 1831 as a living representation of John Henslow's experimental investigations of the nature of species, ideas transmitted to Henslow's most ardent student Charles Darwin. Sixty years later it was the scene of the momentous genetic experiments undertaken by William Bateson on behalf of the Royal Society Committee on Evolution, which launched Mendelism on the English-speaking world.

The talk and tour is for a maximum of 25 Symposium participants. Sign-up will be on a first come first served basis on the day of the Symposium. There is no charge for the tour and talk but participants will be required to pay the standard £4 entry fee for the garden.

Participants should gather at the Botanic Garden Main Gate (corner of Trumpington Road and Bateman Street) at 10am on Saturday September 8th.
