Add amazon.in to the works identifiers #5444

Open RayBB opened 3 years ago

RayBB commented 3 years ago

Some books are not available on amazon.com (or the other offerings listed) such as https://openlibrary.org/books/OL26992093M/Samrat_Ashok_-_History_of_Samrat_Ashoka/

It would be nice to be able to add the amazon.in ID instead of having it in the links section.

Ability to add amazon.in

Proposal & Constraints

I don't see why not. Amazon.in is probably quite large with many books not available on other amazon sites.

Additional context

Stakeholders

@cdrini I know you have the steps in your mind to do this.

Afaict all AMZ sites list the same offerings, except perhaps where local censorship laws intervene. Just the TLD and the currency changes.

RayBB commented 3 years ago

@LeadSongDog when someone clicks the Amazon link to the book listed in the ticket it goes to a 404 on Amazon.com however, the book is on amazon.in https://www.amazon.in/dp/8193699785/?tag=internetarchi-20

Any recommendations on how we could improve the UX around this?

Weird. That one works on .ca and .in but not .com nor .co.uk nor .de I haven’t seen this behaviour before.

We used to have many different amazon identifier options, but it was getting out of hand. The ASIN should work on any amazon site, provided it's available in the country of the domain. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but sellers may have the option to choose where they want to ship to.
