period of record vizualization #8

@pattersonla provided a pretty cool example for visualizing gage period of record from NCSCO. Based on more detailed POR, would require pulling all available data from CDEC and USGS where available

I love this. My only other experience of this sort of thing is from seismology. If you want data, you can download based on spatial and temporal filters. But they also visualize when a seismometer was active.

Of course, you've have to be able to pull APIs from online databases. More complicated is that not all of our gages are on those databases (yet)...we wil lhave to think about that.

Here's an example from the Iris DMC ->https://ds.iris.edu/SeismiQuery/by_station.html the query of passive source data is listed by year, network, station, and then finally a calendar pops up. All data, from both high quality and low quality sources are shown. Example: NN is the Nevada Seismic Network Code, CI is Caltech, etc (and they all have their own webpages in addition to being stored at IRIS)

"X" codes are temporary, probably lower quality - X7 in 2007-2009 was a little project that I did (not the same standards!), and you can see on the Calendar that X7 stations do not operate year-round.

Something like this for hydrology would be awesome (both a national data repository and a visualization of the temporal record).
