Despite the thoughts expressed in Comment #7, a screen saver is a very important
feature for any device displaying any kind of static image on TVs - as not only
do
LCD and Plasma pixels have a limited 'on'-life, but nobody I know of wants to
see a
static image burned into their $1500+ tv. My old cable box had a screensaver
and it
was great. My new cable box does not and it is shit. 'MPlayer' is not shit, but
no
screensaver is a serious drawback that leaves me more often than not not even
bothering to use the Wii for MP3 playback, which is a shame after all the time
and
effort that has obviously already been put into the otherwise well-thought out
app.
(This week, I was streaming Christmas music through my living room stereo
system via
my laptop and WinAmp; it'd have been far more preferable to just use the Wii).
Ideally, in video playback mode on PAUSE or STOP, or when any menu is accessed
or
menu item selection changed, or in Audio playback mode at any time -- a
countdown (or
count-up) timer should be triggered, and when the counter's value reaches the
preset
'On' value, the screensaver should turn on, and the counter should be reset to
its
original value.
The screensaver itself should be a solid black background and, I'd suggest, a
small
'MPlayer' logo slowly bouncing around the screen. Any button-press of the Wii
Remote
should exit the screensaver mode.
