same problem here. I know I've posted about it many times already but the
developers
seem to think it's been fixed in 0.75, but it hasn't. 0.62 is the only really
stable
version.

Same problem. I agree with "ory303" about the 0.62 version.

I have the same issue, but my Wii freezes during USB and DVD file playback as
well.

I have tried playing a DivX and a WMV file over SMB (haven't tried anything
else). I
have confirmed that 0.70, 0.72, and 0.75 consistently freeze after about one
minute,
however 0.62 plays all of the videos fine for the duration. Probably not
related,
but 0.7x writes the "cache fill" text overtop of some previous text, while 0.62
does
not. 0.62 loads more quickly, too. I have 4.1U and IOS 202.

issue confirmed, freeze after ~40 sec of xvid over smb with 0.75 on 3.4E. I
noticed
that the wii doesn't respond as soon as the video starts playing (no button
works
anymore). As if the cache is only filled once and the wii freezes when it's
empty.

-PAL Wii 3.4E
-cIOS from this site
-Modchip
-watching over smb
Mostly freezes after some minutes of Playback or in the last quarter of the
Video.
Only power off per holding consolebutton works after this.
Never had the problem with 0.62.

I am also having this issue. However the issue is intermittent and doesn't
seem to
follow any pattern. I could be half way through the movie playing off SMB, and
suddenly the movie stops and the Wii freezes. I have no choice but to manually
reboot. The interesting thing is, this is intermittent as well. So it's really
difficult to do tests and it doesn't seem to be limited to just a particular
codec.
This has been happening since the 0.6x version I believe. I'm surprised more
people
aren't reporting this.
On 3.2E with 0.75 at the moment.

Also forgot to mention. Sometimes after waiting ages. Perhaps 10 minutes, the
movie
will continue. I'm not sure if this is always the case as often I can't be
bothered
waiting that long so I just power cycle.

I have the same issue on MPlayer CE 0.75.
Homebrew Channel says 1.0.5, IOS61, V19.26
Wii System Version 4.0E
SMB, DivX or Mp4. DVD's also crash. Pity as it seems the most developed of
the
Wii media players.

I may have solved my problem.....I had thought I'd installed the IOS 202, but I
hadn't since my System version (4.0E) did not have the Trucha bug. Therefore
I
used the Trucha bug restorrer and then re-ran the USB 2.0 cIOS installer to
install
IOS202 using base IOS60 and IOS36. Still testing but early signs are it
works. I
know IOS202 seems to be mainly wor USB support but it does mention better wifi.
hope this helps

I have confirmed what robbarrybrown said. I thought I had 202 installed, but
USB test
told me I was wrong. Ran the latest Hermes installer, installed 202, and the
improved
Wifi has brought an end to 0.75 hangs.

I also installed the latest hermes 202 which I downloaded from this site. Seems
to be
working ok thus far.

Same problem with random freezes during playback (at a random, different, point
in
the video being watched). Try hard power-off and reboot, then fast forward to
where
we were up to. Usually fails at least 3-4 times during a video.
Use SMB mounts over WiFi, to both Windows Vista and XP machines. Mostly watching
videos in XviD + avi. No modhip.
Problems occurring with latest versions (0.75, and also 0.72).
Reverted back to earlier version 0.62, which works fine and plays all the (same)
videos all the way through no problems.

I can confirm that this issue can be fixed by installing cIOS 202. No freezes
anymore
on my 3.4E.

I have an issue similar but different. Mine locks up just as the video loads,
from
the SD Card. It has been happening about 50% of the time, which is weird
because when
I first started using MPlayer, it didn't freeze at all :(

I also get frequent freezes over Samba with 0.76 (up to & incl IRC Topic beta
from 10
Jan 2010). Installed cios202 eventually (from Wii Menu 4.2E), but no
improvement.
Went back to mplayer v0.62 and everything is working fine again?!
