I ended up connecting the NeoVI Fire to my windows pc and boot up VechicleSpy, a new firmware was loaded and when I retried the API with the device again, it worked.
So I'm assuming I had the wrong firmware on the neofire red.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.
At the moment we target the structures and firmware from the most current Vehicle Spy 3.8.3.104 release. Currently, there is no method for updating the device to new firmware using the API, but this is planned. The API will work correctly with any relatively recent firmware, and attempt to gracefully handle any differences in the settings structures. The fact that your FIRE was not able to read the settings at all means there was likely a very outdated version of firmware onboard.
Here are the correct firmware versions from my copy of 3.8.3.104, for your reference.
Vehicle Spy 3.8.3.104
neoVI FIRE Firmware:
MPIC: 8.98
UPIC: 1.2
LPIC: 2.13
JPIC: 1.7
neoVI FIRE2 Firmware:
MCHIP: 5.54
ZCHIP: 2.15
Core: 1.7

I'm using the NeoVI FIRE/Red and I seem to have issues setting the baudrate for CAN lines. Is there a specific firmware that is supported? Thanks.
