The problem here is that those groups of literary works are often edited together, which tends to bring them closer to the "work" box. See for instance https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2398964 which in Inventaire typing system could be considered both a work and a serie. Consequently, we already have a bunch of editions linking directly to those groups of literary works: if we were to change Q17518870 to the serie type, those editions would need to link to new work entities.
This distinction between series and works has been an issue for a while now, see #271
The thing is, looking at that list, I mostly find errors? Like one edition is listed as being an edition of the Eddas, while it's a specific work about the Eddas and including some translations, but it should not be directly an edition of the Eddas.
I don't speak German so I may be missing something about the specific Qid listed above but I see no reason for this item to have this P31. Its form should be (and already is! I didn't have to add it!) "compilation".
the SPARQL query gives only 80 results, which is a few hours of work to clean, but for now every random result I opened was obviously a mistake…
For now the items with P31:Q17518870 show up as works on inventaire, but they are series of works, grouped by a specific criteria (like "canonical" or "non-canonical" works, etc.)
They would be better integrated if considered as series, like most other external databases
