The first step when you are trying to implement a feature in react-native-firebase and having difficulty is to check the relevant e2e test code we use to exercise the system - we definitely do uploads and downloads and they work.

On Android the subject of "Content Providers" and getting permission to access files etc is a large and serious topic which I will not cover here, except to say you may wish to copy the file to app cache prior to uploading it in order to simplify things, but it's out of scope to support that in this module - we assume you have access to the file.

Bunches of example code here: https://github.com/invertase/react-native-firebase/blob/master/packages/storage/e2e/StorageTask.e2e.js

Hi Mike, We just shifted from firebase to react native firebase and the implementation was working fine before implementing react-native-firebase.

On the topic of android permissions, do we need extra specific permissions in case of react-native-firebase if it was working before with firebase ? Thank you

mikehardy commented 3 years ago

. Maybe? Permissions to access files are a privacy area so they can be complicated and change on different android versions.

My assumption is that your code is wrong or you don't have permission to access the file

Restart with the feature starting small with known good files in your app directory. Use the example code provided

mikehardy commented 3 years ago

I was just all over the storage area in order to implement the storage emulator, it's all working as far as I know. Will need a reproducible example in order for anything to happen here.
