This is a great project! I'd love to build one once the full specs are available. If I wanted to get a jump on working with the dev board - is the correct part the Sony Spresense CXD5602? Also, will I need the expansion board as part of the intended build?

I'm also quite interested in the potential for an Ambisonic capture option. Has any thought been given toward using the 8 digital input channels on the spresense to enable second order capture?

Hi ! thanks for getting in touch and sorry its taken so long to respond

to get going with it you would need both the core srpesense board and also the extension board as that has the audio inputs etc - we also have a custom sdk that we got from sony - not 100% sure if its now included in the official release - which was to fix some bugs we were getting with the board dropping out or freezing up as it recorded - one of the biggest issues we had was a constant buffer overflow issue - it was hard to completely diagnose because we were working with 256gb cards (32gb cards for long form audio doesn't really make much sense) and the board works with caars that are fat32 so technically sony didn't want to officially troubleshoot a 256 card - but it does work now

in terms of ambisionic we have definitely thought about it - at the moment we are doing stereo and get a really nice binaural image from two omni-mics mounted either side of the enclosures we use - we had been looking at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2568132 but simply haven't got around to testing it yet

devevlopment on this whole project has slowed down a bit with covid - we had some custom shields int he works but we've also hit the brakes on that but hoping to get it up and running again soon - let me know if you want to try out the code or any components of it - to be honest there is nothing hugely technically complex going on a lot of it is just in the execution
