There is an official extension. I am going to support it and keep in sync with changes in the core.

Could it be possible to add some words to readme that this package is outdated and mark it as abandoned on the packagist?

@makasim btw. i was just updating to the merged sofort library. Everything seems to work fine. As soon the change is in production I will close this issue. (I updated it at packagist some while ago)
