@pieterprovoost see above?
recordNumber
is assigned by an individual (name in recordedBy
), traditionally in field notes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=un1g3LiI0fI Collectors usually have their own numbering scheme.
The catalogNumber
on the other hand is the identifier of the occurrence within the collection. See this one for example:
Here the catalogNumber
would be EMEC224981
, which I can use for example to find the record in biodiversity databases: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search?catalog_number=EMEC224981
I only listed fieldNumber
(refers to a sample for example), but recordNumber
should probably be included as well.
is this solved @Ayame @pieterprovoost ?
this makes more sense now, thank you!
The field "recordedBy" specifies a list of names to be inserted by the user. The example text as follows: Examples: "Oliver P. Pearson | Anita K. Pearson" where the value in recordNumber "OPP 7101" corresponds to the number for the specimen in the field catalog (collector number) of Oliver P. Pearson.
I'm unsure as to what the recordNumber field has to do with things. Barring my own oversight, it doesn't seem to be listed amongst the fields to be included. When consulting the documentation (http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/#recordNumber) it is unclear whether the recordNumber is something custom given by the individual or if it's a number / identifier generated by the system.
Please clarify what is to be expected of this link between those fields and if this link between the name and the recordnumber should be validated somehow
