Adding dropdown functionality to main navigation on IOOS jekyll template #34

Would it be possible to add dropdowns to the main navigation in the IOOS jekyll template? The MBON folks have requested adding subpages to some of the main navigation items on the marinebon.org site and the functionality is not currently supported.

Nice to see this theme used in MBON! (Cool page BTW!)

Possible? Yes. Desirable? Yes. Do we have the cycles to implement that? Probably not.

@torieketcham You can see what the capabilities are in the upstream source for our fork of this template: https://mmistakes.github.io/minimal-mistakes/.

Unfortunately, dropdown menus aren't included in the top nav bar (that I can see). I'd recommend reading the docs there, searching issue history for similar requests, and if it hasn't been previously rejected for some reason/doesn't already exist, submitting an issue to the Minimal Mistakes theme directly requesting it.

It's still actively maintained, so there's a chance it could be added by the creator and we could pull the functionality in. This won't happen right away however...

It looks like the author has been asked about adding this functionality and does not plan to support it:
