New Task: Evaluate and document guidelines for data management practices for Marine Life observations. #20

Closed MathewBiddle closed 2 weeks ago

Who is requesting this?

@ioos/marine-life

What is being requested?

Evaluate and document guidelines for data management practices for Marine Life observations (e.g., passive acoustics, plankton, still and video imagery, eDNA, etc.).

We have a few resources, listed below, that we have established for data management practices. The IOOS community needs an authoritative resource to be pointed to for guidance on data management practices.

IOOS doesn't need to recreate the wheel on data management practices, but we need to point folks in the right direction for where to find such resources.

What is the requested deadline and why?

2024-07-05

What is the current status quo (i.e., what happens if this does not get done)?

The IOOS community will splinter on approaches to data management for Marine Life observations.

What indicates this is done (i.e., how do we know this is complete)?

Provide a description or any other important information.

I think mbon-docs is the start of this, but I don't know if we want to rename it. There is MBON specific guidance in there that might not be relevant to the rest of the IOOS community.

I think this is related to #8. Is it a duplicate??

Request coming from RA's and MBON projects

More specific and practicable than the vision document - that should be higher level. Some sort of Cheat Sheet for the IOOS Enterprise on data management for various (Marine Life?) observing types.

@lmshowalter3 to review for agreement with workflows and existing cyberinfrastructure.

I think this is closed with #8 and the publication of https://ioos.github.io/marine_life_data_network/
