Where does this requirement come from? Is an ISO record needed for some functionality of the ML data network portal or is this a requirement for archiving at NCEI? Both? Just wondering how to gauge the scope and difficulty of developing a generic ISO template. They tend to grow in scope since the 19115 data model is so vast.
NCEI doesn't require ISO metadata for archive pipelines.
In fact, if a data provider does provide ISO metadata, NCEI will archive it but not use it for their discovery purposes. They will extract the pieces they need and map them into their discovery ISO metadata record.
For example, the ISO metadata record presented on this landing page https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/metadata/landing-page/bin/iso?id=gov.noaa.nodc:0291446 (as xml)
is different than the ISO record submitted with the archive package (from the originator) https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/data/oceans/archive/arc0227/0291446/1.1/data/0-data/NOAA_ISO19115-2.xml
So, I wonder if this request is to implement/expand ISO 19115-2 for DTag data in the ATN system?
My question is, why do we need to do this? Where is ISO not meeting our needs? It seems to work well for everything else...
Who is requesting this?
@ioos/marine-life
What is being requested?
Provide technical assistance in creating a standard ISO metadata template to support the DTAG data package documentation that is required for archive
What is the requested deadline and why?
2024-06-30
What is the current status quo (i.e., what happens if this does not get done)?
DTAG data will not be archived as completely or efficiently
What indicates this is done (i.e., how do we know this is complete)?
Provide a description or any other important information.
In original SOW: "Provide technical assistance in the creation of a standard ISO metadata template to support dTag data package documentation required for archive."
