Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

7-Zip Doesn't have auto update since it says offline. However, using third party such as Glary Utilities should work by detecting latest version.

What you want

I would like 7-Zip to have support check updates, including automatic and manual.

Describe alternatives you've considered

One of the alternate does have other programs have check updates such as gBurner, AnyBurn, ImgBurn, etc.

Additional Information

Per following this: https://sourceforge.net/p/sevenzip/discussion/45797/thread/c2066626d9/

Have you checked that no similar feature request(s) exist?

(++) Strongest support Per above. Enabling automatic updates would be nice, as well disabling auto update is good likely for current version, such as Check update per week/montlhly.

Other solution is upload program to Microsoft Store, where updates are installed automatically.

That method is not recommended, Like Paint.net, it does have 30 day free trial, so this might requires paid only. since 7-Zip is free software.

You need see my concept about check updates this: Virtual PC 2023-05-02 20-32-41-35

On the help menu, there's option called "Check for Updates", that will check for update in 7-zip site, not the Microsoft store.

Virtual PC 2023-05-02 22-02-13-46

While checking the updates, the new version appears. This is the concept like from ImgBurn.

More to come soon about concept.

You can disagree with my opinion of course. I don't understand comparison to Paint.Net.

Read this. According what Rick brewster said:

You can also make use of the 30-day free trial to get started.

Even though, they also include Background Update, just like WinSCP did.

The only what my concept is simple: Make check for updates in 7-zip site, so that allows to see new version. Even Glary Utilities did, it also automatically check updates too.

Here's on the gBurner after I check update: gBurner-CheckUpdate

In gBurner, PowerISO, WinArchiver and AnyBurn, clicking OK will visit the website to get download latest version.

GlaryUtilities-UpdateCheck

In Glary Utilities, the check for updates automatically are enabled by default, hence you will see new version available and changes for the latest version.

GlaryUtilities-UpdateDownload Clicking Check for Updates will also download the latest version, this is called WebUpdate. Once the download is complete, the setup will be start automatically after update is downloaded.

That is all what to say, these are concept for check for updated if the 7-Zip have these.

One more thing, there are also called Software Update checker in Glary Utilities, if the 7-Zip is installed with the old version, they will available the latest version on FilePuma site.

Great, I totally understood your idea on the beginning of these Feature Request. Fun fact, there's tool build into Windows 10/11 called winget, which can also be used to update software, no 3rd party software needed.
