I'm looking to create a full-time active fork of Wikipedia I want to store it on IPFS as you have except keep it up to date and create a more robust interface in angular

Please text me if you are interested in working on the project. I always say two is better than one we really need to have a second competing software infrastructure for document collaboration as well as a separate storage system it's not okay that the sum of the world's encyclopedic knowledge is stored on Jimmy wales servers alone.

You'll notice this project's public interface doesn't have a data snapshots since 2021 and that's also not okay.

I think we would quickly have a much more robust much better document versioning and collaboration system if we forked here and started working in order to specifically do that. I also have plans to integrate an AI system to compare and contrast the multiple languages Wikipedia is in as well as comparing it directly to the encyclopedia Britannica

Please call or text if you are interested. Texting is better, leave q message. 9546678083 -------- Original Message -------- On Jan 2, 2024, 8:20 PM, welcome[bot] < @.***> wrote:

Creating exploded version of ZIM is unlikely. Nobody is maintaining the tooling anymore, nor it is a wise use of time/resources.

Better direction is to put ZIM archives on IPFS as-is, without unpacking them, and have a web based reader that is capable fo fetching necessary byte ranges p2p/http from IPFS>

@papiche please see https://github.com/ipfs/distributed-wikipedia-mirror/issues/140 for an approach which will enable using ZIMs as-is, including the French one. If you are interested in contributing, invest time there.

@alzinging

it's not okay that the sum of the world's encyclopedic knowledge is stored on Jimmy wales servers alone.

I agree.

OK. Let's go... contact on "IPFS Tech Forum"

@lidel

put ZIM archives on IPFS as-is

I am using IPFS for few years now, I can tell you, big files over IPFS is not the good way to do if you like to make regular snapshots. When put into IPFS, it is better to redefine protocol inside data itself. And get an IPNS "allocation table" for it. I am working with spherical geo keys to run UPlanet, it uses TiddlyWiki to publish & collect articles based on sharing number and cross-signed trust level. It can host and build "Wikipedia" from the ground to the surface.

Coud we extract the contributor list and their contributions from ZIM or else?

I don't know how to contact you on there :/ Pinning and the cost of dealing with it has turned me off to/of IPFS; I think the concept should be "reworked"; also it would be nice if the system didn't duplicate data, using hashes to save space and "help solve the pinning problem."

In any case I'm working on copying the XML dump to Arweave; which I think is more appropriate for Wikipedia, also more useful.
