GVFS is the IO layer used in the Gnome world and is written in C.
Adding an IPFS plugin would presumably (not a gnome user nor dev here, i don't know for sure) allowipfs://<cid> and ipns://<cid> to work in all GTK based applications running in a Gnome context.
