Perhaps reword from: Industry has gotten away with using HTTP this long because moving small

to: The technology industry has gotten away with using HTTP this long because moving small

The sentence sounds fragmented without some definite article or descriptor (I've added both here). Not sure if I've targeted the industry in mind though.
