microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 joystick noy running in GEFS online #21

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. running GEFS online on both Firefox and Google chrome
2. installed javascipt plugin 0.6.3
3. running Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

for the above joystick to be detected so it can ve used in the GEFS online
flight simulator- however, it says no joystick is detected when it is connected
and works fine in other simulators..

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
javascipt plugin 0.6.3
Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit

Please provide any additional information below.

I've checked under 'Device and printers' that the joystick is being detected
and producing data..

If you type about:plugins in the URL bar do you see the joystick plug-in listed?

plugin isn't for Chrome of course- and can't see it in that of course yet the
joystick isn't detected in GEFS online in Google Chrome either.. Internet
Exlporer doesn't show anything when I type about:plugins ...

For IE, go to Manage Add-ons, click Toolbars and Extensions, then select to
show all add-ons. The plug-in should be there too.

Also, in devices and printers, right-click on your joystick, select Advanced,
then make sure your Sidewinder is set there.

yes- checked IE- and plugin is installed-
Name JoystickCtl Class
Publisher (Not verified) Numfum Ltd
Status Enabled
Architecture 32-bit

I note it's 32 bit- will that be an issue since I'm running Win 7 64 bit?

(as above I already confirmed joystick is recognized in devices and printers
etc (and works in other games/flight sims fine)..

On Windows 7 the default IE is 32-bit as far as I remember. Does it work on
this test page:

thanks- I tried that weblink in IE 32 bit and a still picture of a 'sheep' with
this message-

Note: when running the page as a local file, IE classes the ActiveX as unsafe.
This works without warning when the page is on-line.

(not sure if that's what's supposed to happen but moving the joystick doesn't
do anything on screen)

In Firefox, if you type about:addons in the address bar, do you see the plug-in
and does it say "ask to activate"? If so, that's the problem. It changed a
short while ago:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/why-do-i-have-click-activate-plugins

Since the joystick plug-in has no visible component, there's nothing to click
to perform the activation. You need to set it to "always activate".

In Chrome you need to go to chrome://plugins and select "always allowed" for
the plug-in. I'll need to look into IE some more.

I made a change to the test script above, so the example should now work in IE
too. Any site using the plug-in will need to use the updated 'joystick.js'.

thanks- after selecting ask/always activate as above I do now get the message
in GEFS online in google chrome saying CH PRO PEDALS USB (Vendor: 068e
Product: 00f2) detected on native HTML5 API (& in Firefox 'Controller detected
on JS Joystick extension' - not specifiying any partiular joystick or
peripheral) but moving the pedals doesn't do anything and what about my
sidewinder joystick..?

acually since trying in chrome again- the microsoft joystick function finally
worked in GEFS online - but was very temperamental- can't remember now exactly-
but after refreshing the GEFS online it found it- initially all control
surfaces worked but not the throttle- then suddenly the throttle started
working..just a little too repsonsive with some of te aircraft or not
responsive enough- but that's likely a GEFS online issue...
