In similar manner to Matrix spaces, I suggest having a method to "group" channels as well as other buffers into groups, that also allow putting groups inside them. It would allow some very helpful organization for most general networks, and it might make things like #archlinux-offtopic, #archlinux, #archlinux-newbies and similar common names for channels in something as popular as Libera.Chat into something much more friendly and convenient. That aside, it would allow things similar to Discord servers to be easily translatable into an IRC network - which could be very nicely organized due to the categories that group channels, in the group that represents the "guild".
