GPS being lost during use of MyTracks #1543

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Turn on MyTracks and begin a walk.
2. Walk
3. When finished walk, notice that on the map there are gaps in my route where
GPS signal was lost.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I never had issues with gaps in my route before but starting June 23rd this has
been an issue everyday.

What version of MyTracks are you using? On what version of Android? On what
phone?

MyTracks - v2.0.7
Android - v4.4.4
Phone - Nexus 4

If possible please provide a log by uploading here.

I am having this issue as well. I hadn't used My Tracks for a couple months
(April 2014 --> June 2014), and in that interim period my LG G2 (Verizon
Wireless) was updated to 4.4.2. I believe there was also an update to My
Tracks? (my version is 2.0.7)

To answer your questions:
1) Google Play Services 4.4.52
2) Location mode set to "High Accuracy"
3) Recording settings:
-Recoring time interval: smallest (recommended)
-Recording distance interval: 32 ft (recommended)
-Max distance: 656 ft (recommended)
-GPS accuracy: 164 ft (recommended) and also tried 328 ft

During the entire Recording period, my phone screen was kept on. GPS Status
Toolbox was running in the background, and showed a GPS signal lock with GPS
coordinates, despite My Tracks displaying "GPS Signal Lost" on the map screen.
The map shows various gaps as the OP described.

Same issue here. Suggest there be an option to fill the gaps using straight
line if not on a road, but otherwise use road data? When recording every 10s
with no loss of signal the path is unbroken, so give us an option to treat loss
of signal as a extra long sampling time.

Please update your Google Play services. The cause if the "High accuracy" mode
will return both gps and wifi locations. In My Tracks, we filtered out the wifi
locations since they introduce lots of noise, thus causing these gaps. The
newer Google Play services should always favor gps over wifi under "High
accuracy" mode.
