Confirmed tests pass for activemq-5.14.1 (default in the test hook) on Ubuntu 18.04. Testing on Centos 7 and with rabbitmq broker now

Going to leave this as a draft for now. I haven't been able to figure out how to get rabbitmq to go. Been reading the docs here for installation/setup instructions: https://www.rabbitmq.com/install-debian.html#apt-quick-start-cloudsmith

Going to force-push due to rebasing on top of a change which invalidates at least one of the commits above.

After discussion, we have determined that the rabbitmq issue can be resolved later. I've created #88 for it this.
