Can you please add a way for producers to signal consumers out-of-band that there is no more work coming? #48

Some way to soft delete or flag a queue so that when a consumer tries to get a message it will return something (status code or message) saying there is no more work for a while.

yes!

but i would change the end: "saying there is no more work forthcoming, and the consumer can safely exit"
