Irssi causes the CPU to wake up at least three times per second, which also turn causes a flurry of scheduling-related wakeups, when completely idle, even when not connected to any network, thus consuming unnecessary power and shortening the battery life of mobile users.

Jilles, isn't this fixed now? Or has it just been made less bad, and should it be improved more in the future?

It is better than it used to be, but probably should be improved more.
