I'd be disappointed if there was no dice function.
We should also add a haiku generator.
Don't waste your time this. Make some working release first.
I agree that tox should be professional communicator in future with clean code not like Skype with integrated facebook trash etc...
That sounds like a client feature.
That's because it is. A note should be made stating whimsical features are client only If stuff like this was implemented it would simply be a waste of everyone's time on silly features that should remain client side if you need an example of that look at Clementines stupid Extras.
@a-l-d I disagree, I think the hypnotoad is an incredibly important feature, I definitely wouldn't use Clementine over Spotify if it didn't roll with a button to play noise while I'm trying to listen to music.
I don't know, that haiku generator generator sounds pretty great.
This is for the backend of the software, this would be a feature for the QT client or venom client. Submit it there.
Why is this issue even still open?
Please close this nonsense, Tox must become professional grade software and no childish features.
Let's centralize Tox.
can someone close this issue ...
If you seriously want this feature then go bother those who are making clients.
Interpersonal communication is a complicated issue, despite how our technology isolates us. Decisive resolutions are in high demand within a society obsessed with haste. People use instant messaging services for various reasons that are not solely limited to the vanilla realms of bourgeoisie business and media-condoned behaviors. Some demographics may with to make use of IM services for the services themselves. In conjunction, these issues can be addressed with a multiple random number generator contrivance in the vein of a simple dice rolling mechanic.
I will admit that in the dismal plutocracy contemporary society is headed towards, a dice roller will appear as a "niche" market. Also, I personally find the apparent simplicity of Tox to be its most appealing aspect. Nevertheless, I propose that there may be a considerable utility to a dice rolling random number mechanism as an element of communication.
In practice, what I propose is akin to what can be seen elsewhere in similar environments of online text communication: A command trigger, followed by a simplified designation of the virtual die or dice being rolled. In the following example, the command would consist of typing the phrase "/roll" at the start of a message.
/roll 1d6+1 /roll 2d20-2 Engineering
The output for each could ideally read as follows:
[Username] rolls 1d6+1 for a result of: [4] + 1 = 5 [Username] rolls 2d20-2 for a result of: [3 + 16] - 2 = 17 (Engineering)
These are, of course, only suggestive examples, and could benefit from more concise and visible formatting that will enable important information to stand out. I have used longer text here in hopes of making the output details more obvious in context. Some people these days are regressing to the low-tech pastime of tabletop gaming, even over the internet, which revolves around the usage of rolling dice, or at the very least, virtual dice. I sincerely hope others would find a use in such a feature.
Thank you for your time.
