It's very difficult to keep a boat going in a straight line, especially on ice, while still going forward. I have a long ice path in my nether and I always end up fishtailing back and forth as I go through it. This would make the steering slightly less precise, but no less precise than keyboard controls.

It would be nice if there was some kind of configurable deadzone for boats so it would go perfectly straight if the joystick was close enough to straight.
Describe alternatives you've considered
This is much less of a problem with horses because they follow the camera. Maybe the mod could make boats controllable with the camera as well, like they were in earlier versions of Minecraft. I'm sure that would be a very complex addition, though.
